2012-2013 Season

Here are the dates for our 59th season which runs from September 2012 to June 2013.

Sept. 8, 2012 9:45 AM — Opening Day — John Isaac 

Join us for an exciting presentation by John Isaac. John Isaac is an award-winning photojournalist and author who has traveled to more than 100 countries while capturing the struggles and triumphs of our changing world. From 1969 to 1998, Isaac worked for the United Nations and had a distinguished photography career in the Department of Public Information. In 1978, the UN promoted him to photographer and he retired as the chief of the Photo Unit in 1998. Throughout his career, Isaac has received numerous national and international awards for his work, as well as 13 awards from Nikon International Photo Contests. In 2000, the International Photographic Council named him the recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award. John has authored many books including a series called Children in Crisis. Through this series, John gives a first hand account of the daily life of children and their families in troubled regions around the world. He co-authored Endangered Peoples with Art Davidson and Art Wolff for the Sierra Club. He also co-authored Coorg, Land of the Kodavaswith his wife Jeannette, about the Coorg region in Southern India.. Join us at 9:45am. Admission is free. Light refreshments will follow afterwards.

 

 

 

Sept. 22, 2012 9:30 AM — Competition #1 Digital, Theme: Door(s) Judge: Roz Rosenblum.

Our first competition of the season. You’ll want to read the rules before submitting. If you’re competing in our competitions please upload your photos by Monday, September 17th at midnight. Remember to check out the instructions for uploading as well.

October 6, 2012 9:30 AM — Competition #2 plus Altered Reality, Theme: Cemeteries/Tombstones Judge: Walter Kimmel.

Our second competition of the season.  Please upload your photos by Monday, October 1. Please note that in addition to our regular digital competitions, the theme competition and our black-and-white competition, we’ll be holding the first of five Altered Reality competitions.

October 20, 2012 9:30 AM — Elinor Stecker Orel

Former Popular Photography Magazine Editor Elinor Stecker Orel will give a wonderful presentation on composition.

November 3 2012 9:30 AM — Competition #3 Digital, Theme: Beautiful Blur,  Judge: Chuck Pine.

Our third competition of the season. Please upload your photos by Monday, October 29th at 11:59 pm.

November 17, 2012 9:30 AM —Member critique , Gear Day #1 

Get your images ready for competition by participating in our member critique. Upload up to 4 image by Monday, November 12th for a critique by our “in-house” specialists. You’ll get feedback so you can then use the images in competition. We’ll also be presenting the first of our Gear Day presentations. This one is on Tripods.

December 1 2012 9:30 AM — Competition #4 plus Altered Reality #2, Theme: A Touch of Color, Judge: John Brokos.

Our fourth competition of the season.Please upload your photos by November 29th at 11:59 pm. Please note that in addition to our regular digital competitions, the theme competition and our black-and-white competition, we’ll be holding the second of five Altered Reality competitions. And, if you’re entering the Theme Competition, Touch of Color is described as Black & white with one object in color.  Note: object may be one color, or multiple colors.

December 15, 2012 9:30 AM — Holiday Party/Business Meeting plus “Short Shorts”

Join us for our annual holiday party — it’s potluck so bring a favorite dish to share! Plus,  we’ll be holding a business meeting giving you a chance to give the Club  feedback on our activities. Plus, “Short Shorts” which are member presentations. If you would like to show a Short  Short, please see Conrad or Ronnie.

January 5, 2013 9:30 AM — Competition #5 Digital  Theme: Food, Judge: Ron Wyatt.

Our fifth competition of the season.  Please upload your photos by Monday, December 31st and yes, that’s New Year’s Eve so upload before the ball drops!

January 19, 2013 - Gear Day Tripods, DxO presentation, Member Critiques and Gary from Hunts Photo!

Our sixth competition of the season. Please upload your photos by Monday, January 28th at 11:59 pm. Please note that in addition to our regular digital competitions, the theme competition and our black-and-white competition, we’ll be holding the third of five Altered Reality competitions.

February 16, 2013 9:30 AM — Ridgewood International

We’ll feature a great presentation of the winners of the Ridgewood Club’s Annual International Competition.

March 2, 2013 9:30 AM — Competition #7 Theme:Night Photography Judge: Vinnie Kempf.

March 9, 2013 9:30 AM — Bird Photography with Harvey Augenbraun

Join us as Harvey gives us his terrific presentation on bird photography.

April 6, 2013 9:30 AM — Competition #8 plus Altered Reality #4, Theme: Reflections in Water,  Judge: Rob Dublin

Our eighth competition of the season.Please upload your photos by Monday, April 1st at 11:59 pm. Please note that in addition to our regular digital competitions, the theme competition and our black-and-white competition, we’ll be holding the fourth of five Altered Reality competitions.

Our final regular competition of the season before our End of Year competitions. Please upload your photos by Monday, April 29th at 11:59 pm. Please note that in addition to our regular digital competitions, the theme competition and our black-and-white competition, we’ll be holding the fifth and final Altered Reality competition.

May 11, 2013 9:30 AM — End of Year Competitions,  Judges: Elinor Stecker-Orel, Hector Martinez and Jerry Spette
