2011-2012 Season

Here are the dates for our 58th season which runs from September 2011 to June 2012. Please make note of some important Schedule changes for March and April 2012 below…

Sept. 10, 2011 9:45 AM — Shiv Verma

We’re thrilled to announce that Shiv Verma will be our opening day presenter on September 10th. Shiv will be giving a presentation on macro photography. Shiv is a photographer and  educator and has been Chairman of the Nature Division, PSA (Photographic Society of America);  Vice President of the Digital Circuit NECCC (New England Camera Club Council) and been on the boards of many other photo clubs .For more information on Shiv and to see some of his great photos, please check out his Web site – http://www.shivverma.com/. Sept. 24, 2011 9:30 AM — Competition #1 Digital, Theme: Beaches Judge: Roz Rosenblum.

Our first competition of the season. You’ll want to read the new rules before submitting. If you’re competing in our competitions please upload your photos by Monday, September 19th at midnight. There are new instructions for uploading as well.

October 1, 2011 9:30 AM — Competition #2 plus Altered Reality, Theme: Grafitti Judge: Ann Harper.

Our second competition of the season.  If you’re competing in our digital competitions please upload your photos by Wednesday, September 28th. Please note that in addition to our regular digital competitions, the theme competition and our black-and-white competition, we’ll be holding the first of five Altered Reality competitions. And, afterwards, join Conrad Tinney as he leads the NYBZPS sponsored Scott Kelby Photo Walk through the Botanical Gardens. October 22, 2011 9:30 AM — Presentation by Tim Grey

We’re thrilled to have Tim Grey giving a talk on Targeted Adjustments in Photoshop. The ability to apply adjustments that only affect a specific area of an image unlocks some of the greatest power of Photoshop. In this session, digital imaging expert Tim Grey will guide you through the use of selection tools and techniques to identify specific areas of an image with precision, and then will demonstrate the use of layer masks to apply adjustments to specific areas of the image. You’ll gain new skills and a high degree of confidence to help you achieve the best results possible for your photographs.Plus, we’ll have Gary from Hunts Camera and Video with all sorts of cool gear for sale!

December 3 2011 9:30 AM — Competition #4 plus Altered Reality, Theme: Face(es) Real or Abstract, Judge: Rob Dublin.

December 17, 2011 9:30 AM — Holiday Party/Business Meeting plus “Short Shorts”

Join us for our annual holiday party — it’s potluck so bring a favorite dish to share! Plus,  we’ll be holding a business meeting giving you a chance to give the Club  feedback on our activities. Plus, “Short Shorts” which are member presentations. If you would like to show a Short  Short, please see Linda or Ronnie.

January 7, 2012 9:30 AM — Competition #5 Digital plus Altered Reality, Theme: Baby/Babies, Judge: Phil Echo.

March 31, 2012 9:30 AM — Presentation by Ron Wyatt -From Minor League to the Olympic Games: Ron Wyatt’s Journey through the World of Sports Photography

We’re thrilled to announce that corporate and editorial photographer Ron Wyatt will be presenting at the club. Join Ron as he discusses capturing the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in sports photography. Whether you’re an ambitious beginner, or a seasoned pro, Ron will cover equipment, camera set-up, and how to plan a shooting strategy. He’ll also emphasize the importance of knowing the game, how to have fun photographing sports and what it’s like to cover the Olympic Games. Before you know it, “play ball” will resound in neighborhood and ballparks across the land. Ron will help the family photo-bugs prepare for capturing action on and around the field. This is the perfect seminar to learn about the basics of sports photography, and see images of milestone sporting events captured by a true pro. Ron has covered the NBA, NFL, MLB, and two Summer Olympic Games. His photos have appeared in various publications such as: USA Today, Black Enterprise Magazine, Time Magazine, Newsweek, TV Guide, ESPN, and others. He currently covers corporate assignments for; Six Flags, Eastman Kodak, Continental Airlines, CVS, PepsiCo, Verizon, and many others.
